From the Book "That's Dave"
Although Dave Richards had some problems during his elementary school years, once he discovered life sciences, his light began to shine with an intensity that few of us know. While still in high school, he won prizes in an international science fair and recognition from the US government for his research into plant photosynthesis.

Dave Richards went on to college and made a gallant attempt to enter medical school. Although his illness thwarted this desire, he did achieve master's degrees in medial technology and civil engineering. Tragically, he was employing the skills he worked so hard to achieve when cystic fibrosis finally claimed his life.

While "That's Dave" keenly portrays the life of this remarkable man, it also chronicles the lives of those who surrounded him.

Mary Richards, his mother, struggled through one hardship after another to care for Dave and his younger brother Dana, who also fought against Cystic fibrosis. Her indomitable strength and courage serve as a beacon to all who might tend to give up hope in the bleak face of multiple adversities.

To Dave, cystic fibrosis was simply just a part of his life. He did come to know that it made him different from other people, but it was never the focal point of his existence. The concept of giving up was just wasn't in his vocabulary. "That's Dave" is an inspiring biography that truly illustrates all that is noble and good in the human spirit.
