OBITUARY...
Richard Lee McRae, age 65, returned to his heavenly home on August 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on October 12, 1950, to John and Catherine (Stelter) McRae. He lived in Danvers, Illinois, before moving to Rapid City, SD in December, 1959. He and his wife, Christine (Nelson) McRae met as children, and, on August 27, 1971, Richard married his best friend.

Richard graduated from Rapid City High School in 1968 and obtained an associate degree in accounting at Black Hills State University. Richard was a skilled carpenter. His employment at Rushmore Homes helped to hone his abilities, before he moved to Dinger Construction in 1974. In April 1983, Richard transitioned to Del’s Construction, where he worked until his death. He took extreme pride in his work and happily shared his time and skills with others; he particularly enjoyed helping his two children improve their homes.

Richard stressed the importance of a positive attitude to his children, and was happiest spending time with family. He was a devoted father and grandfather, rarely missing a school performance. Family and friends will remember him as a genuinely kind man with an amazing sense of humor. He loved the outdoors, particularly hiking and biking. During several hikes up Harney Peak, he only stopped to rest when his family needed a break. Richard was involved with Habitat for Humanity and active on his church council.

Richard is survived by his wife, Christine; son, Dan (Kim) McRae; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Moore; brother, Kenneth McRae; sister, Carol (Joe) Minter; granddaughters, Emalee and Hydee; and grandsons, Jeremy and Apollo. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert McRae.

His family will never get over losing Richard, but they take solace in knowing that they never left anything unsaid, and they always parted with a hug and an, “I love you.” He will continue to touch and shape their lives in spirit.

Visitation will be 2-4pm on Sun., Aug. 28 at Kirk Funeral Home. Services are set for 11am on Mon., Aug. 29 at Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Warren Lahammer officiating. Inurnment will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Outlaw Ranch.
