In the forty years between my 1973 graduation from SDSU and retirement from Washington, DC, coal-based association work in 2013, I worked as a news director at KIMM, public information officer for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Senate staffer (George McGovern, 1977-80).

I married Deb Eatherton of Whitewood in 1977. We have a son (Andy) and daughter (Jane).

I coordinate a team of Lay Assistance Minsters St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA. We provide emergency financial assistance to our neighbors in Arlington, Falls Church, and Alexandria to assist them in paying utility bills, rent, storage fees, medical bills, etc.

During the pandemic, I put a small collection of fountain pens to use and worked to improve my handwritingy. I found it to be a soothing discipline and a serene way to keep up with friends and family.

I remain an avid reader and Cribbage player. My deteriorating vision from age-related macular degeneration brought my car driving and bicycle riding to an end in 2022.
