OBITUARY...
Arthur J. "Art" Herder, Jr., 52, of Rapid City, died of natural causes at his home on Thursday, February 27, 2003.
He was born to Arthur J. and Nell (Anderson) Herder, Sr. in Rapid City on October 30, 1950.

He grew up in Rapid City, graduating from Rapid City High School. He served in the United States Navy from August 1969 until May of 1973. He attended and graduated from the S.D. School of Mines and Technology, and then received a Master's Degree in Education from B.H. State University at Spearfish. He taught at Rapid City Central and Stevens High Schools for a number of years and was presently teaching at Central High School. He was the rodeo club advisor for the area high schools.

Art was a long time member of the "Counts of the Cobblestone" auto club, a lifetime member of the Noon Optimist Club and a member of Elks Lodge #1187.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Herder of Rapid City; 2 sons, John and Gene Herder of Rapid City; 2 daughters, Amber Herder and Tristan Linquist of Rapid City; 2 stepchildren, John and James Hanneman of Rapid City; his mother, Nell Herder of Rapid City; 3 sisters, Shirley Schlottman and her husband Bud of Rapid City, Maxine Sharpe of Sioux Falls and Frances Hoover and her husband David of Tucson, Arizona; and 4 grandchildren, Brandon and Kiara Linquist, Damon Herder and Madison Hanneman, all of Rapid City.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 2, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Dakota Middle School Auditorium, with Rev. Walter Steele officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the auditorium. Inurnment will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post #1273.

A memorial has been established.
