50th Reunion Comment:
After we graduated from USD, Jim and I were married In Rapid City on June 10, 1972 - yes, THAT day. After a dozen years in Minneapolis, we moved to CA in 1985 and have lived in the heart of Silicon Valley since. We have a son (37), daughter (33), and 6 grandchildren in CA and OR. We have been enjoying retirement for 7 years now. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at our 50 year class reunion. (Gosh it is hard to get a picture now that doesn't look old!!)
OBITUARY...
Janet Catherine (Campbell) Steichen died May 27, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family after a brief but devastating illness. She was a longtime resident of Sunnyvale, California. Jan was born May 29, 1950 to Ronald and Mary (Slaughter) Campbell in Vermillion, South Dakota. As a child she grew up in South Dakota. Jan graduated from Rapid City High School in 1968 and from University of South Dakota in 1972, where she was an active member of the Alpha Phi sorority. After graduation, she married her college sweetheart, Jim, on June 10, 1972.
Jim's career as a CPA found them in Minneapolis, Minnesota for a dozen years. There, her children Gregory James and Abigail Catherine were born. In 1985, they moved to Sunnyvale, California. Jan was an active member of her community, including the Sunnyvale Southern Little League, Sunnyvale School District, PTA, and Newcomers. She attended Church of the Resurrection in Sunnyvale.
Jan's love for travel took her on numerous road trips across the United States and 40 countries. She had a fascination with presidential history and visited every presidential gravesite. She was passionate about family genealogy. Her great sense of humor, her attention to detail, and her impeccable memory were strengths revered by those around her. Jan valued her lifelong friendships, particularly those from her baby group, and the friends she made throughout her life.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, Joanne and Kenneth Steichen. She is survived by her husband, her children Greg (Dawn Marie) and Abigail (Thomas Moll), her grandchildren: Brooklyn, Cevin, Hunter, Jasmine, Mariah, and Kiana, her sister Jean Campbell, her many sisters and brothers-in-law, and numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, Jan would prefer the following organizations for memorials: Kinship House, a mental health and advocacy organization for foster children in Portland, Oregon, and Rainbow Acres in Camp Verde, Arizona.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Church of the Resurrection, 725 Cascade Drive, Sunnyvale. Jan's wish is for colorful attire.
