OBITUARY...
George Fisher died October 26, 2023. He was born in Belle Fourche, SD January 26, 1950 to Charles and Faith Fisher. The family ultimately settled in Rapid City, where he attended middle and high school; graduating from Rapid City High School in 1968. George was heavily involved in the arts while in school. This involvement included band, choir, and theater; talents he passed to his children and grandchildren.
In 1970 he left Rapid City to join the Army, where he served an exemplary 28 years in the medical field. In that time he met, and married, his wife of 50 plus years, Bobbi; had three children Kristina, Nicholas, and Michele. He was also fortunate in his career to live all over the country as well as many years in Germany and Okinawa, Japan.
In 1999, George said goodbye to the Army and joined Marathon Oil for another 15 years, giving him the opportunity to continue his medical profession and travel internationally to places the Army didn’t send him. In 2015 George retired from the oil business and moved back home to the Black Hills, where he discovered his passion for horses, and the creation of Rockin G Ranch LLC.
George was well known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had a wealth of knowledge regardless if it was medical, historical, or make believe. Pop quizzes on musical theory always brought a smile to (only) his face.
George is survived by his brother Paul Fisher (Mount Pleasant, SC); his three children and son-in-law Chris and Kristina (Fisher) Grinnell, Nicholas Fisher, and Michele Fisher; and his five beautiful grandchildren. His legacy lives on through them.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Kirk Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 9:30. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the George Fisher Memorial Fund at your local Black Hills Federal Credit Union to help support some of his passions.
