50th reunion comment:
Wow! It's hard to imagine that 50+ years ago we were wandering the halls of Central High. After college graduation (BHSU) I moved to Virginia to start my career as a fisheries biologist with the Virginia Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries. Spent my entire career with them; retired in 2015. My wife (Pam) is still working, and we have two children. Really enjoying retirement, and stay busy golfing, bicycling, boating, and woodworking.

OBITUARY...
Eddy (Ed) L. Steinkoenig, 71 yrs, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away May 6, 2022 at Mary Washington Hospital, after a multi-year battle with cancer. He was born on July 9, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa, to the proud parents Eugene Frederick Steinkoenig and Jean Eileen (Petit) Steinkoenig.

Ed spent his formative years (through sixth grade) in Lake Preston, South Dakota, and the remainder of his school years in Rapid City, SD. After graduating from HS, and Black Hills State University he moved to Virginia and started his career with the Virginia Game Commission (now known as the VA Department of Wildlife Resources) as a fisheries biologist. Ed worked for the Agency in different capacities for 43 years, retiring in 2015.

Ed believed strongly in community service and was active in both the Fredericksburg Jaycees and Chancellor Ruritan Club. While in the Jaycees he held multiple offices including president. Ed was instrumental in planning and constructing the exercise trail at Alum Springs Park along with Ralph Smith, Director of the Fredericksburg Parks and Rec Dept.

Ed spent many fun filled years heavily involved the Jaycees and met the love of his life, Pam. They were married in 1981 and together raised two boys, Brian and Eric. Ed had a third son, Keith, from an earlier marriage. Ed was always supportive of his sons’ activities, whether coaching their sporting activities, attending club meetings or cheering and working as an enthusiastic band parent. He never missed a pack meeting, game, half-time, concert, or play.

Ed is survived by his wife, Pamela of 40+ years, sons Brian (Jackie), and Eric (Christine) from Richmond, VA, Keith and granddaughter Ashley of Long Beach, CA; sisters Jeanette (Richard) Salverson of Monument, CO, Karen Rhoads of Austin, TX, and Daisy (Keith) Vick of the Villages, FL, a brother-in-law Erwin Zimmermann, sister/brother in-law Kate & Tom Heigl, along with many dear friends. Ed is preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Jean Steinkoenig, in-laws Amy and Pat Small and sister-in-law Betsy Zimmermann.

The family asks that memorials be directed to their favorite charity in Ed’s name. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Saturday 14, 2022 at noon at the Tabernacle Methodist Church on Old Plank Rd. An informal celebration will follow at his home.
