OBITUARY...
Nancy A. Ellwein passed away on July 13, 2024 at Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Nancy was born August 6, 1950 in Sioux Falls, SD to Lloyd and Arta Ellwein. She spent her childhood in Sioux Falls and Worthington, MN, before moving to Rapid City. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1968. She attended SD School of Mines and the University of Colorado (Denver) and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Black Hills State College.
Nancy dedicated the majority of her career (31 years) to serving members of Sentinel Federal
Credit Union, the last 18 years as President and CEO. She retired in 2018. Nancy enjoyed
73-and-a-half good years until illness slowed her in her final months. Nancy was an avid gardener and took great pride in her roses and irises, but her orchids were truly impressive. She also loved her cats and they brought joy to her life. Among the fortunate felines to be loved and cared for by Nancy during her life were Spencer, Ginger, Sam’l, Ella,
Duke, and Molly.
Nancy leaves behind Sam and Bumper who have a new home in Hot Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents (Lloyd and Arta) and by a sister, Mary (Guhin) who
died in 2020. She is survived by brother-in-law Clark Guhin of Aberdeen, nephew Greg Guhin and niece Shannon (Guhin) Bergan, stepdaughters Genevieve Goulding and Mary Jane Haak (Alex) and grandchildren Eugene, Violet, and Magnolia. Genevieve shared a memory of her stepmother, recalling that it was Nancy who taught her that as a young woman it is OK to stand up for herself. At Nancy’s request, no services are planned but a “gathering of friends” will be scheduled at a
later date.
