OBITUARY...
Roxanne R. Schafer, 53, Philip, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Roxanne Radway was born January 14, 1950, in Philip, South Dakota, the daughter of Robert Horace and Mildred (Thorson) Radway. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She grew up on the farm-ranch west of Milesville and attended Indian Springs Rural School through the eighth grade. She attended high school at Central High School in Rapid City, graduating in 1968.

Roxanne was united in marriage to Don Schafer in June 1968 in Philip, and to this union were born two children, Michael and Melanie. After their marriage, they lived in Seattle and Germany before returning to Rapid City.

While in Rapid City, Roxanne worked for the United States Soil Conservation Service. In 1986, she graduated from Black Hills State College and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. While in Phoenix, she worked as an auditor for the U.S. Air Force. In 1989 she transferred to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she continued as an auditor for the Air Force. In 1996 she retired and continued to reside in Colorado Springs. During her retirement she worked as an accountant for the American Volleyball Coaches Association until moving back to Philip in the fall of 2002.

Roxanne attended the Metropolitan Community Church in Colorado Springs. She enjoyed many outdoor sports, as well as traveling with her family and friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are a son Michael Schaferand his wife Jennifer of Rapid City; a daughter Melanie Schafer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two granddaughters Mysha and Savannah Schafer of Rapid City; her mother Mildred Radway of Philip; one sister Gloria Jelinek of Denver, Colorado; three brothers Arlie Radway and his wife Gretchen of Howes, South Dakota, Glen Radway and his wife Jackie of Milesville, South Dakota, and Bruce Radway and his wife Cheri of Fairbanks, Alaska; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Roxanne was preceded in death by her father Robert on January 4, 1996, and a nephew Frank Jelinek.

Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor Paul Bly officiating. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip.
