OBITUARY...
Dr. Jon David Lund, 65, of Amarillo, died Saturday, December 26, 2015.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. this Thursday at Arden Road Baptist Church with Dale Bigham, Pastor Emeritus, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Dad went home to be with Jesus after a nine-year battle with Stage 4 Melanoma cancer. We miss him greatly but rejoice that he is no longer in any pain, and we’ll be all together again in Heaven one day.

Dad was born on April 28, 1950, in St. Paul, MN. He was the second of four sons born to Burnell and Alice Lund, full-time ministers of the Gospel of Christ for over fifty years. He grew up predominantly in Rapid City, SD, and trusted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior as a young boy.

After high school, he embarked on an extensive program of education beginning with the prestigious South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. While attending there he accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. At Navy, he served as Brigade Executive Officer, made many lasting friendships and graduated second in his class of 1000 as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1974.

After several tours of duty including the U.S.S. Ramsey (FFG-2), a special one-year assignment to Cairo, Egypt, and an eighteen-month tour in Israel as an advisor to the United Nations, he left Navy life for a time. He attended Dallas Theological Seminary and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Theology in 1983. Upon graduation, he enrolled in Southwestern Medical School through a Navy program and graduated as doctor of medicine in 1987.
Following the traditional pattern of Navy life, he moved with his young family from Dallas, TX, to Portsmouth, VA, to Amarillo, TX, to Twenty-Nine Palms, CA, to Camp Pendleton, CA, and finally to San Diego, CA. He retired there from the Navy as a Commander in 2003 and moved his family to Amarillo, TX. As an assistant professor with Texas Tech University’s medical school and in conjunction with Northwest Texas Hospital, he continued a fruitful medical practice and teaching career until his retirement due to his illness in 2012. At each duty station, Dad faithfully provided for his family, sacrificed to send his children to private, Christian schools and always sought out thriving churches for spiritual growth. He and Mom faithfully served and taught in their local church for many years, ministering to both children and senior saints. The faithfulness they demonstrated to one another in their marriage has been an example to all of us, and their special relationship only seemed to grow and flourish as Dad’s health deteriorated over the past few years.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, children and extended family, but we’ve been blessed beyond measure by his example and presence during his life. We are witnesses to his love for Christ and to the fact that his spiritual legacy lives on and will have an impact for the kingdom of God for all eternity! Dad is survived by his wife, Maria; his mother, Alice; his two brothers, Tim and Tom; his six children, Jill, Burnie, Alicen, Carissa, Shaun and Havuka; and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother, Burnie, and his father, Burnell.
