OBITUARY...
David L. Jones, 50, Rapid City, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.
He was born July 4, 1950, at Rapid City, the son of Oscar A. and Marjorie (Harter) Jones. He grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1968 and then attended Arizona State University, graduating with a degree in architecture. He married Rebecca Swanson at Rapid City on Aug. 3, 1974. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Phoenix where they lived until returning home to Rapid City in 1993. He was a partner in the architecture firm of Roberts-Jones Associates in Phoenix and associated with TSP Three in Rapid City, where he became president of the firm in 1995. He was active in community affairs and served on the board of directors for United Way, was a member of Rotary Club, served on the board of directors at Storybook Island, and served on the board of directors for Rapid City Community Development Corp. He was also state treasurer for American Institute of Architects and a member of the 7th Cavalry Drum & Bugle Corps. David loved the outdoors and the Black Hills and sailing. He loved animals and particularly his dog, Sophie.
Surviving are his wife, Becky, Rapid City; a daughter, Jessica Jones, Rapid City; and his mother, Marjorie Jones, Rapid City.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Jones.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. A Christian wake service will be at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with Rev. Eugene O'Carroll presiding.
Burial will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park. A memorial has been established for Storybook Island and the Humane Society of the B1ack Hills.
