OBITUARY...
Dan K. Johnson, 58, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Dan Kelly Johnson was born on July 9, 1950, to Robert “Bud” and Murial (O’Connell) Johnson at Rapid City, SD. He grew up in Quinn, SD until moving to Rapid City in 1959. He attended schools in Rapid City graduating from Rapid City Central High School in 1968. He attended diesel mechanic school and then went to work for Kiewit. Dan married Sherri Fattig on January 26, 1974 in Rapid City.
Dan retired after 27 years with Kiewit. The family moved to Spearfish in the June of 1996. Dan worked for Quinn Construction and owned Dan’s Dumpster Service in Whitewood, SD with his wife.
Dan’s greatest enjoyment was watching his children participate in whatever activities they were involved in. He was an active part of youth sports. He enjoyed drag racing and boating. Dan looked forward to attending South Dakota State Basketball Tournaments in remembrance of his father.
Dan believed in children, he was very active in many of their lives, as a coach and mentor. He believed that, having them participate and having fun was more important than winning. Many children’s lives are better today because of Dan’s presence.
Dan is survived by his wife, Sherri, Spearfish; four sons; Tanner (Sarah Beth) Johnson, Olathe, KS; Tate Johnson, St. Paul, MN; Turner Johnson and Tad Johnson both of Aberdeen, SD; one daughter, Tierra Johnson, North Ridge, CA; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Johnson; two sisters, Shelly (Terry) Weisgram and Darci McManigal both of Rapid City, SD.
