OBITUARY...
Candace “Candi” Marie Blosmo Stromer, 75 years old, of Belle Fourche, SD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16th at Garden Hills Assisted Living Facility in Spearfish, SD.
Candi was born in Lemmon, SD, on 3/7/1950, to parents Mearl & Lois Blosmo.
She grew up in Shade Hill, SD on the family ranch and graduated from high school in May 1968. Candi graduated from college, December 22, 1993, from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. She received her degree of Bachelor of Science (College of Business and Public Affairs).
Candace was an amazing artist. Some of her mediums included drawings, charcoal, oil paintings, and Japanese ink drawings. She mostly enjoyed making art about horses and floral arrangements. Candace took care of her horses including all upkeep and horse training. In around 2007, Candi bought her own Ranchette in Belle Fourche, SD. She was very proud to have been able to do this on her own and lived there for about 18 years. An extremely independent woman, Candi did most of the upkeep of the Ranchette, including various remodeling projects inside of her home on her own.
Candace had a daughter, Chris (Christeen) Leaming, on August 11th of 1970, and her son, Brook Stromer, on March 30th of 1974. She was a proud Grandma to River and Beck Stromer.
Candace enjoyed her many animals, especially cats and horses from the time she was a little toddler on the family ranch. Some favorite animals included Shadow (cat & a horse), Sheeva (cat), Beau (horse), barn cats, and Toby (her constant companion and cat wrangler). Her horses included Candy Bar, Chim, Shadow, and lastly Beau.
Riding horses was her passion.
She was a member of the Country Ladies with her sister, Connie, for several years from about 1989 to about 1993. She also competed in both English and Western horse shows, receiving several ribbons along the way. She really enjoyed riding in the Black Hills with her family and friends for many years.
Most of her work life was spent working in banking. She started out as a Teller and worked her way up to becoming a Bank Manager at First Interstate Bank. She worked at various banks in Rapid City and Spearfish, ending her career at First Interstate Bank in Spearfish, SD.
Candace is survived by her children, daughter Chris Leaming who lives in Colorado Springs, CO. Her son Brook Stromer and grandsons River & Beck Stromer live in Rapid City, SD. Her brother John Blosmo and wife LorRaine live in Bison, SD. Her sister, Connie Niehaus and her husband John live in Spearfish, SD. Candi has an extensive family that lives in the Black Hills and beyond.
Candace’s Celebration of Life will be held on July 22nd, 2025, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1020 State St., Spearfish, SD, 57783 at 11:00 am. Pastor Stephan Saness will be officiating the service. There will be a luncheon held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church directly after the service. Any flowers brought to the church will be donated to Garden Hills Assisted Living in the Memory Care building for her friends to enjoy.
